Girl's 4 Varsity Ice Hockey

History was made tonight as the Alexandria Central Purple Ghost varsity girl's hockey team took on Canton Central at the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center. The Purple Ghost team is the result of a monumental parental effort from the Thousand Island and Alexandria Central school districts. The young girls in our area minor hockey associations can finally look forward to moving on to a first class high school hockey program.

Canton moved out to a 2-0 lead just 4:18 into the first period. For the next 40:42 the huge crowd at the Rec. Center watched as Goalie Katie Russell and her team mates outscored the veteran Canton program 1-0.

Canton last year made it to the Upstate Girl's Hockey League Final Four held at SUNY Oswego. Canton qualified along with Salmon River, Potsdam and Oswego. They ended regulation in their first game tied with Potsdam and lost in a shootout. They followed that performance with a double overtime loss to Oswego in the consolation game.

The Bay and T.I. girls have served notice that they are a team to be reckoned with.

Their next home game is Wednesday, December 3rd vs. the Larries of St. Lawrence Central. Game time is 6:30 P.M. at the Rec. Center.
